FAQs Regarding the Retirement of 5 BEA Designations

Q. What certifications are retiring and when?
A. The following exams are being retired and will no longer be available after September 30, 2008:
0B0-101 BEA Certified Developer: Build Solutions for BEA WebLogic 8.1
0B0-102 BEA Certified Developer: Portal Solutions for BEA WebLogic 8.1
0B0-103 BEA Certified Developer: Integration Solutions for BEA WebLogic 8.1/8.5
0B0-104 BEA Certified Administrator: System Administration for BEA WebLogic 8.1
0B0-105 BEA Certified Architect: Enterprise Architecture for BEA WebLogic 8.1

On September 30, 2008 these exams and designations will no longer be available to candidates. All candidates who wish to complete their certification using the above exams must pass the exam by September 30, 2008 to be recognized as a BEA certified professional. No exceptions will be granted.
Q. Why are these certifications being retired?
A. Programs periodically retire exams related to previous versions of products, particularly if there is a need for content revision due to over-exposure or the product becoming outdated.
Q. What will happen to my certification when these certifications have been retired?
A. All BEA Certified individuals will retain their credentials even if their certification track is retired. They will continue to receive market recognition for their BEA certifications. However, no new candidates will be accepted into the retiring BEA Certification paths after the retirement date.
Q. Can I still take an exam for one of these retiring certifications?
A. Yes, exams may be taken through September 30, 2008. Please note that you must pass the exam by this date in order to become certified, so give yourself plenty of time to retake the exam if you happen not to pass. No exceptions will be given.
Q. Are there replacement exams available for those that are retiring?
A. No exact replacements will be made available after the exam is retired. However, exams based on current products versions are already available. The following list of exams will remain in production and are not being retired:
0B0-109 BEA Certified Developer: BEA WebLogic Server 9
0B0-110 BEA Certified Developer: BEA WebLogic Portal 9/10
0B0-108 BEA Certified Administrator: System Administration for BEA WebLogic 9
0B0-106 BEA SOA Foundations Approved
0B0-107 BEA SOA Adoption and Implementation
0B0-410 BEA Certified Support Associate: BEA WebLogic Server 9/10

The BEA Certified Support Professional: BEA WebLogic Server 9/10 program will also remain active.
Q. What happens to the unused voucher that I purchased for a retiring exam?
A. Yes. Although the exams are being retired and may no longer be obtained after the retirement date, the associated credentials do not retire and will continue to be recognized. Holders of the credential may continue to use appropriate logos according to BEA’s logo usage policy accessible within the Learning Profile Database.
Q. Can I continue to use the logos for my BEA Certifications after exam retirement?
A. If you have not yet registered for the retiring exam using your voucher, you can do so until either the voucher expires or until September 30, 2008, whichever date comes first. If you do not use your voucher code to register for a retiring exam before September 30, 2008 and your voucher code is still valid (expiration date extends past September 30, 2008), then you can use the voucher code for any remaining BEA Certification exam.

    Requirements & Preparation
To help candidates prepare for certification, the following pages include resources relevant to the certification tracks and areas of specialization. The resources include certification requirements, exam objectives, study guide, relevant training and mock exams. These resources are validated against actual BEA Certification material and proprietary content.

As means of certification preparation, BEA highly encourages candidates to attend suggested BEA training since they provide preparations to relevant content in the exams. However, to successfully pass the exams, candidates are additionally expected to draw on practical and implementation experience. The exam objectives for each certification provide a better understanding of the topics a candidate is tested on. Relevant training for each certification path is detailed in the BEA Curriculum Tracks.

In addition, BEA Certification now offers mock exams to help candidates assess their exam readiness. Each mock exam includes 27-40 practice questions which mimic actual questions on the exams. Each question addresses the exam objectives. Answers are provided at the end of the mock exams. Results from the mock exams do not guarantee success/failure on the actual certification exam.
