It confirms that you have the job skills and technical knowledge required of an expert-level network IT practitioner.

Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for CCIE certification. Other professional certifications or training courses are not required.

Step Two: CCIE Wireless Lab Exam

NOTE: The Lab Exam is currently in beta and is by invitation only. Please come back for future updates.
The eight-hour lab exam tests your ability to configure and troubleshoot actual equipment and get the network running in a timed test situation. You must pass the lab within three years of passing the written to achieve certification. Your first lab attempt must be made within 18 months.

Recertificaton
CCIEs Are Required to Recertify Every Two Years
Active CCIE status shows your commitment to maintaining expert-level knowledge in an industry critical to the success of virtually every organization. CCIEs are encouraged to continually expand their technical knowledge and are required to pass a recertification exam every two years. If you do not complete your recertification before the deadlines, your CCIE certification will be suspended and you and your employer will lose the benefits associated with your expert status. You have one year to reinstate your CCIE status before you becomes inactive and must begin the certification process all over again.

About Registering for Exams
Register for Exams
Certification exams are offered at locations throughout the world. To register for an exam, contact Pearson VUE, the primary test delivery partner for Cisco, who will administer the exam in a secure, proctored environment.

How to Register for an Exam
1. Decide which exam to take, noting the exam name and number (XXX-XXX). To see a complete list of active exams please refer to the Current Exams and Exam Outlines webpage for exam details.

2. Gather personal information prior to exam registration

* Legal name (from government issued ID)
* Cisco Certification ID (i.e. CSCO00000001) or Test ID number
* Company name
* Valid email address
* Method of payment
* If you have ever taken a Cisco exam before please locate your Cisco Certification ID (i.e. CSCO00000001) before continuing with your registration to avoid duplicate records and delays in receiving proper credit for your exams.
* A valid email is required during exam registration. Cisco requires a valid email to send email reminders when a candidate’s certification is about to expire, confirm the mailing address before shipping out the certificate and to inform candidates if their certificate was returned due to an incorrect address.

3. Pearson VUE is the Cisco authorized test delivery partner. You can register online, by telephone, or by walk in (where available).

* In U.S. and Canada visit Pearson VUE online or call Pearson VUE at 1-877-404-EXAM to register for an exam.
* Outside U.S. and Canada, check Pearson VUE for more information.
* In the U.S. and Canada, exams may be scheduled up to six weeks in advance, and as late as the same day.
* Candidates must wait five (5) calendar days from the end of their first attempt before retaking the same exam. Refund policies vary by authorized test delivery partner.

Candidates must make an initial attempt of the CCIE lab exam or CCDE Practical Exam within 18 months of passing the related written exam. Valid passing scores on written exams expire after 18 months.

What Do Exams Cost?
Computer-based certification exam prices range from $80 to $325 US dollars or equivalent worldwide

* The single CCNA exam is $250 USD and
* The Composite exam is $300 USD (professional level CCNP and CCDP)
* CCIE and CCDE written exams are $350 USD. Payment is made directly to the authorized test delivery partner Pearson VUE
* CCIE lab exams are $1,400 USD. Payment is made online via credit card or wire transfer

Retaking Exams

* Candidates may only take a beta exam once.
* Candidates who fail an exam must wait a period of five (5) calendar days, beginning the day after the failed attempt, before they may retest for the same exam. Once passed, a candidate must wait a minimum of 180 days before taking the same exam with an identical exam number.

CCIE Wireless Lab Exam Overview

NOTE: The Lab Exam will become available the week of April 13. Candidates are now able to book their lab seats online.

Configuring a Network to Given Specifications
The CCIE lab exam is an eight-hour, hands-on exam which requires you to configure a series of networks to given specifications. The lab focuses on implementing Enterprise WLAN solutions, such as implementing the Autonomous infrastructure, Unified infrastructure, Unified Controllers and AP’s, Unified WCS and Location and implementing Voice over Wireless.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate expert level wireless skills as well as troubleshooting skills to diagnose and solve issues as part of the CCIE lab exam.

Cost
Lab exams cost USD$1,400 per attempt, not including travel and lodging expenses. Costs may vary due to exchange rates and local taxes (VAT, GST). You are responsible for any fees your financial institution charges to complete the payment transaction.

Lab Environment
Access to the The online Cisco documentation pages is provided in the lab room, but the exam assumes knowledge of the more common protocols and technologies. As of Sept 24 2008 CCIE labs do no longer support using the UniversCD documentation for the lab exam. All labs are migrating to Cisco Documentation only. The Cisco Documentation pages have the same information that currently resides on UniversCD, please refer to the links on the CCIE web pages to view these pages and become familiar with the new format.

No outside reference materials are permitted in the lab room. You must report any suspected equipment issues to the proctor during the exam; adjustments cannot be made once the exam is over.

Lab Exam Grading
Each question on the lab has specific criterion. The labs are graded by proctors who ensure all the criterion are met and points are awarded accordingly. The proctors use automatic tools to gather information from the routers to perform some preliminary evaluations, but the final determination of a correct or incorrect configuration is done by a trained proctor.

Results
You can review your lab exam results online (login required), usually within 48 hours. Results are Pass/Fail and failing score reports indicate major topic areas where additional study and preparation may be useful.
