INTRODUCTION

This document describes the DCSE Certification Exams for individual products and the Associate DCSE levels. For up-to-date information, access the DCSE Program web site at the following URL: dcse.dell.com. A TechID and PIN is required to access the DCSE test system. Exam content is subject to change without prior notice.

DCSE TEST SYSTEM

Functionality

The DCSE Test System is designed to provide improved usability, functionality and reporting. It allows a technician to complete a self-assessment exam to verify their knowledge of the product category prior to taguide the certification exam.

The DCSE Test System employs the following test question methodologies:

Multiple choice – one correct answer
Multiple choice – select all that apply
Matching
True or false
In the event you are uncertain of an answer to a question, you will be able to flag questions to review prior to submitting your exam for grading. Following completion of the last question in the exam, a summary screen will sequentially display the questions and your selected answer. The questions you flagged to review will be highlighted. Selecting a flagged question will enable you to return to the question and select your final answer. Once you have answered all questions, and are within the specified time limit, you will need to press the Submit button.

There is a time limit associated with each exam. Refer to each Associate DCSE certification exam for specific information.

In the event of a dropped connection prior to clicguide on the Submit button, the test system will consider this an attempt and score the test. The DCSE Group will need to reset the test system (at no charge) to enable you to complete and submit your certification exam answers.

Clicguide on the Submit button will result in your exam being scored for correct and incorrect answers. A graphic will be displayed indicating the number of questions answered correctly and incorrectly as well as whether you passed or failed the certification exam.

When taguide an exam, only one log in to the DCSE web site is permitted. Multiple log ins are not allowed and will result in termination of testing privileges.

Layout

The DCSE test system is divided into two major sections: practice (self-assessments) tests and certification exams. The practice tests provide technicians with an opportunity to test their knowledge and skill of each objective covered by the associated training. The certification exams provide technicians with an opportunity to gain certification on a product or DCSE family of products.

Within each major section, tests are further divided into product and DCSE tests.

In an effort to keep the field service force up to speed on Dell products, each field-serviceable product sold by Dell will have a corresponding product self-assessment and product certification exam. Successful completion of an individual product certification exam will be recorded in the technician’s profile, but will not cause a certificate to be generated. Successful completion of a single DCSE certification exam will also be recorded in the technician’s profile, but will not cause a certificate to be generated. Successful completion of all designated parts of a DCSE certification exam set will constitute certification on the family of products and will cause a certificate to be generated. Product tests will have the word “Product” in the test name and DCSE tests will have the word “Associate” in the test name.

DCSE Versions

In an effort to add structure to the DCSE test system, a version control system and naming convention has been adopted. Version numbers will be synonymous with a certain set of Dell field-serviceable products (e.g., Version 6.0 – X3X0 series servers). The most current version of the matrix of products to version is available on the DCSE Program web site. New product tests and version information will also be communicated through the web site.
