Tutorial: How to convert PDF to VCE using Exam Formatter v2

Let’s assume that you already have the PDF-file you wish to convert to the VCE format.

First of all you need the following software:

  1. Elcomsoft Advanced PDF Password Recovery (only if your PDF-file is read-only)

  1. Open your PDF-file with Adobe Acrobat Professional or Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  2. In the “File” menu, select “Document Properties…”.
  3. In the “Document Properties” dialog box, click “Security”.
  4. Check the value of the “Content Copying or Extraction” property, if it is “Allowed” then you can go to Part B of this tutorial.
  5. If the “Content Copying or Extraction” property is “Not Allowed” then you need to use Elcomsoft Advanced PDF Password Recovery in order to remove copy protection.

Part B. Converting PDF to formatted TXT.

  1. Launch Exam Formatter.

  2. From the File menu, select “Settings”. Specify the question number format and the running titles as shown on the picture below. Click “OK”.

  2. On the step 2, select the “Text file (*.txt)” radio button.

  3. On the step 3, click “Browse” and select your text file. Then click “Next”.

Part D. Importing images.

Unfortunately at present Exam Formatter doesn’t support image importing because it works with plain text files but it contains the tool that will help you to extract images from a PDF file. So if your PDF file contains images you should extract and import them manually.

  2. Specify the source PDF file and the path where you wish to save the images. Click “Extract”.

  3. Wait until extraction process is complete. Click “OK”.

  4. The folder with the extracted images will be opened.

  5. Insert the extracted images to the appropriate questions using Visual CertExam Designer.

  6. The import process is complete and now you can take the created test using Visual CertExam Manager.
